Sometimes it could take little more than a moment of inattention or a sudden bout with fatigue for a driver to veer into another lane of traffic. Drivers who fail to maintain proper lane control may be at greater risk of drifting into the path of other vehicles and setting of a dangerous chain of events. A recent car accident in Maryland that occurred when a driver drifted into oncoming lanes of traffic has reportedly left two individuals with injuries and claimed the life of another person.

Multiple-vehicle crash

Reports indicate that the crash occurred at around 6 p.m. on a recent Friday and involved up to three vehicles. The incident reportedly began when for reasons unknown, the driver of an eastbound car suddenly drifted across the center line and into oncoming lanes of traffic. The car proceeded to crash into a nearby pickup truck and the impact of the crash forced the truck to collide with a third vehicle.

Authorities have advised that the driver of the pickup truck was airlifted to a medical facility for treatment of severe injuries. The driver of the third car was also injured in the crash and was taken to the hospital via ambulance. Authorities say that the driver who caused the crash died after being rushed to the hospital. While the incident remains under investigation, no further information was provided as to what might have caused this person to lose control and veer into oncoming lanes.
