A motor vehicle accident can occur under a variety of situations and sometimes there might be little a person can do to escape harm’s way. Those who cross paths with a reckless driver may have insufficient time to respond to the situation and they could be the ones left suffering the repercussions. One person was killed and up to nine others suffered injuries during a recent car accident involving a wrong-way driver in Maryland.
Multiple-vehicle crash
Reports indicate that the incident occurred on a recent Tuesday evening when for reasons that remain under investigation, the driver of a southbound vehicle suddenly veered into northbound lanes. The driver continued to travel in the wrong direction and proceeded to crash into two northbound vehicles. Authorities have advised that up to nine occupants in the other two vehicles suffered injuries in the crash, several of whom were children.
Reports indicate that the driver of one of the northbound vehicles was also taken to a hospital with injuries but passed away at the facility later. Although an investigation into the crash is underway, no further details were provided as to why the driver of the first car may have exhibited such behavior. However, authorities have stated that this person will face charges upon completion of the crash investigation.
Negligent behavior
The presence of any type of negligent behavior may only increase the risks a car accident may occur and the outcome of collisions involving wrong-way drivers can prove disastrous by nature. Those who suffer serious injuries or experience the untimely passing of a loved one under such circumstances may choose to consult with a personal injury attorney for advice on their available legal avenues. Such a decision could help a person in Maryland better understand the available options and help him or her prepare to pursue the restitution deserved through the appropriate channels.
