Child killed, several injured in recent chain-reaction crash

While some rear-end collisions may do little more than cause minor damage to vehicles and disrupt one’s schedule for the day, there is always a risk that the outcome could prove more severe in nature. Should a tractor-trailer crash into the rear of another vehicle, the impact could prompt a chain reaction of events that may pose a threat to the safety and lives of everyone nearby. A 3-year-old child was killed and several others were injured in a recent car accident involving similar circumstances in Maryland.

Chain-reaction collision

Law enforcement agents advised that they responded to reports of a chain-reaction crash just after 6 a.m. on a recent Friday. The incident began when for reasons unknown, the driver of a tractor-trailer suddenly crashed into the rear-end of another vehicle. This reportedly prompted a chain of events involving up to four vehicles altogether and authorities say that up to seven people were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Reports indicate that a 3-year-old child riding in the second vehicle was rushed to a medical facility with life-threatening injuries but passed away after arriving at the facility. Authorities also say that several of those involved in the crash suffered severe injuries in the process. While the accident is currently under investigation, it remains unclear as to what might have caused the driver of the tractor-trailer to fail to stop in time to avoid colliding with the second vehicle.

The loss of a child

No family should have to endure the loss of a child in a car accident, especially if it comes as the result of another party’s negligent actions. Those who suffer such a loss may face an understandable desire for justice and they could choose to speak with a personal injury attorney for guidance on their available legal avenues. An attorney can examine the incident and assist a client in Maryland in preparing to seek the compensation deserved through a wrongful death claim against all parties deemed responsible.
