It might not come as a surprise that the presence of impairment continues to play a role in many serious collisions. Those who operate a vehicle under similar circumstances may struggle to judge speeds and distances or track the motions of other vehicles, and as such, run a greater risk of creating a dangerous situation. Reports indicate that impairment is suspected in a recent car accident that killed one person and injured three others in Maryland.

The crash

According to reports, authorities responded to the scene of a head-on crash on a recent Wednesday afternoon. They say that it took place when the driver of a southbound car suddenly crossed over the center line and began traveling in the wrong direction. This car reportedly proceeded to hit an oncoming vehicle head-on shortly thereafter.

Authorities have advised that the driver of the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants in this vehicle suffered severe injuries and were both airlifted to nearby trauma centers, while a third was taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.  Authorities also assert that an investigation into the incident is underway and that impairment may have been a contributing factor.

Injury and loss

Suffer serious injuries or sudden loss in a car accident involving similar forms of negligence can be a devastating experience. Following such an incident, the victim or surviving loved ones of the deceased could choose to consult with legal counsel for advice on the next steps to take to seek restitution in civil court. An attorney can provide a client in Maryland with advice on all his or her available options and how to prepare to seek the full amount of compensation entitled to receive through the proper channels.
