While nearly every collision has the potential to end in catastrophe, those involving pedestrians have a much higher risk of having severe, if not fatal repercussions. When drivers fail to yield the right of way, pedestrians may find it nearly impossible to react in time to move out of the path of a quick-moving vehicle. A woman reportedly died after she was struck by a speeding vehicle while traversing a crosswalk during a recent car accident in Maryland.

According to reports, law enforcement agents began investigating the incident on a recent Saturday morning. They say the crash occurred as the woman was crossing the street within the lines of a crosswalk. A nearby driver reportedly hit the woman while traveling at a high rate of speed and proceeded to flee the scene soon thereafter.

Upon arriving at the location, emergency responders say they found the woman laying in the road with critical injuries. Although she was rushed to a hospital, she passed away soon after arriving at the facility. Authorities have advised that an investigation into the incident remains underway as the search for the driver of the vehicle is ongoing.

Losing a loved one in a car accident can be a devastating and harrowing experience. When another party is deemed at fault in the crash, the surviving loved ones of the deceased could choose to retain the services of an experienced attorney for guidance on how best to approach the situation. An attorney can examine the circumstances a client in Maryland is facing and assist him or her in preparing to seek the full amount of restitution deserved through a wrongful death claim.
