Man faces 50 years for fatal drunk-driving crash

When you're behind the wheel of a car, you take pride in making sure you're paying attention to the road. You don't do things that could distract you while you're behind the wheel, and you focus on getting to where you want to go. Not all drivers are as safe.

Take, for instance, the man in this case. He has pleaded guilty to five counts of negligent manslaughter along with a slew of other charges following an accident that resulted in the deaths of five people. He now faces up to 50 years in prison for the 28 counts he was convicted of.

The 27-year-old man had been driving a Mercedes-Benz when he struck an Acura on Livingston Road. The man had been driving faster than the 30 mph speed limit, hitting the other vehicle so hard that it slammed into a utility pole. The man reportedly admitted that he had been driving while impaired.

The collision led to the deaths of give people, a 32-year-old woman, 35-year-old woman, 21-year-old woman, 13-year-old child and one-year-old child. The driver of the Acura survived, as did the driver of the Mercedes and his front-seat passenger.

The prosecution reported that the man had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.14 at the time of the crash. He and his passengers were coming back from dinner that night.

In cases like this, it's important that those affected get the compensation and justice they deserve. This collision, and those like it, could be avoided. If you're hurt or lose a loved one in this way, your attorney can help make sure you get the compensation you need.
